Farm Products: Corn, soybeans and cattle.

Description: A farm family continuing the tradition of farming for several generations. They grow a variety of conventional crops including corn and soybeans. The main goal is to protect the land, achieve an abundant and high quality harvest while maintaining good conservation practices. Visitors will have an upclose “see and touch” of farm equipment, new and old, used throughout the year to plant, tend and harvest crops. Equipment includes planters, tractors, sprayers, a combine and tillage equipment.

Farm Products: Tomatoes, leeks, bell peppers, kale, spinach, potatoes, cucumbers, squash, gourds, long beans, basil, onions and flowers.

Description: For the second year, with the help of a grant from the Elizabeth Schultz Environmental Fund, Prairie Moon Waldorf School has market garden on the school grounds. The garden provides a vital focus for the school’s Waldorf curriculum, encouraging appreciation and connection to the natural world through active participation in planting, growing, and harvesting. Students will learn about plant biology, soil science, hydrology, gardening, mathematics, geology, geography, and business. Prairie Moon is the first Kansas Green School in Douglas County and one of the first three Green Schools in the state.

Description: Screamin’ Oaks (named for the peacocks roaming freely on the farm) features various farm animals, poultry, and reptiles. Take an educational tour of the farm, participate in the Search and Find farm game, milk a goat, taste goat milk products, see soap making demonstrations, create a craft item, slide into the sunflower seed pit for a free farm gift. Will also feature spinning demonstrations and finished wool products.

Description: We are a certified organic farm since 1989 and we grow six acres of vegetables and about 8,000 lbs. of mushrooms each year. We would like to talk to visitors about organic farming and how mushrooms are grown.

Farm Products: Variety of fresh produce, cloth shopping bags and t-shirts.

Description: Established in 2010, this 5,000 square food garden is one of three school gardens involved in the Growing Food, Growing Health Project. The garden is tended by five student gardeners who work from April through November. Produce is sold at the Thursday Lawrence Farmers Market to raise funds to keep the project sustainable. In late spring and fall, the garden supplies produce to the school cafeteria. Fruit trees and small fruits were added to the garden this year. Visit West and learn more about this exciting project and visit with our student gardeners.
