Hidden Hollow Farm
#17 on the Farm Tour Map
1966 E 100 Rd., Lecompton
Owner: Tad & Margaret Kramar
Hidden Hollow Farm is a small family farm operated by Tad and Margaret Kramar, located just north of Big Springs, which is halfway between Topeka and Lawrence, Kansas. Although the amount of land we farm comes to only about an acre, we want to impress visitors with the amount of fruit, vegetables and flowers that anyone can grow in very limited spaces. By marketing this produce at the Lawrence Farmers’ Market and several other local venues, we are providing nutritious, local food to consumers, which has been grown organically with no herbicides, pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. Hidden Hollow Farm is on the Oregon Trail. About one hundred and seventy years ago, settlers journeying west would have camped for the night close to Spring Creek, which runs through our property. We are establishing a native prairie at the top of our hill, and native plants for pollinators are incorporated into the numerous gardens in the landscape surrounding the house.
Collect eggs. Observe a flock of over one hundred chickens of various breeds. Observe how native plants can not only be incorporated into existing gardens, but also integrated into the entire landscape. Solar panels. Rainwater storage tanks for gardens and landscape.
Kid-Friendly Activities:
Seeing and petting animals: a goat and two sheep. Gathering eggs and seeing hens in nesting boxes. Observing a chicken flock of over one hundred chickens of different breeds.
