We produce 40 wines from 17 grape varieties and apples. Tastings and tours are available. Meet our sheep in the vineyard.
Since we planted our vineyard in 1990 and opened the first licensed winery in Douglas County in 1997 (seventh in the state), our goal has always been to make wine from 100% Kansas grown fruit. We grow all our grapes here on 22 acres of rich Kaw Valley sandy loam, and we purchase other fruit from local growers. The annual Farm Tour gives us a chance to share our stories and show people how we make our wine, from the ground up, all the way through harvesting and aging. Fun fact: In 1901-02 Kansas had 5668 acres of grapes and produced 173,654 gallons of wine, even though Kansas prohibition began in 1881 (from the Thirteenth Biennial Report of the State Board of Agriculture Kansas, vol. xviii, 1901-1902). We are proud to be a part of the grape growing/winemaking tradition in Kansas.
We offer walking tours of the vineyard where visitors can hear about our history and learn about growing and pruning the vines and harvesting the grape crop. We also offer tours of the processing area where they can see crushers and barrels and tanks, oh my! These tours are only given during Farm Tour and are not available the rest of the year.
