The Wakarusa River Valley Heritage Museum is located inside Bloomington Park on the west side of Clinton Lake. The museum highlights the history of the Wakarusa River Valley communities and brings to life the stories of the families who participated in the Underground Railroad in the 1860s.
Special Events:
There will be a weaving demonstration: a loom and spinning wheel will be in action. Visitors will have a chance to try carding wool and spinning. Special items from the museum’s collection, including local woven textiles from the 1860s, will be on display. There will be items for sale by artists: hand-spun yarn, hand-woven rugs, quilt crafts, and handmade crafts. A collection of farm tools will be on display along with this season’s exhibits: The Wakarusa River Valley Communities, the First 20 Years, Angels of Freedom: Underground Railroad in the Valley, and Community Focus: Old & New Belvoir and Twin Mound.
